How did the new Mr and Mrs meet and was the proposal a surprise?
“Doug and I met at Purdue University. One of my high school friends was his roommate, so we quickly became friends and stayed close for two years before we went on our first date. Our first date was at a park near our college, where we had a picnic and stargazed. About two and a half years into dating, Doug proposed to me at that very same park. It was a complete surprise! All of our closest friends and family were hiding at the park waiting to celebrate with us, which made the moment even more special.”
Once she said yes, it was time to secure the ring!
“I absolutely loved my dress-buying experience at Something Blue Bridal. It took more than eight months and more than ten bridal stores before I finally found “the dress.” When I walked into Something Blue, everything felt different. I felt calm, confident, and genuinely excited to be shopping. I never felt pressured to make a purchase, which made the entire experience so much more enjoyable. I have truly recommended Something Blue Bridal to so many of my friends!”
What was Kaitlin’s favorite part of wedding planning?
“My favorite part of wedding planning was having a long engagement. We were engaged for two years before our wedding, which made the planning process feel much less stressful. I felt like we were able to truly enjoy being engaged without constantly feeling like we had to make decisions about the wedding.”
What was Kaitlin’s least favorite part of wedding planning
“My least favorite part was definitely the month leading up to the wedding. There were so many questions, details, and people pulling me in different directions that it became a little overwhelming. Looking back, I wish I had reminded myself more often to slow down and enjoy those final weeks.”
What was Kaitlin’s favorite part of their big day?
“My favorite part of the wedding day was sitting down with my husband during the reception. My husband and I had a sweetheart table, and I cannot recommend having one enough! It gave us a chance to sit together, debrief about everything that had happened that morning, and take in the people we loved most all around us. It was such a surreal moment. After feeling like I had been going nonstop for nearly ten hours, it was the first time that day that I felt like I could actually sit down, take a breath, and appreciate everything happening around us. Being able to look around and see all of our loved ones celebrating with us is something I will never forget.”
What advice would you give to other brides?
“The biggest piece of advice I would give other brides is to sit down, put your phone away, and just enjoy your day. It is much easier said than done, but it is so important to take a moment to actually be present. Sit back and enjoy all of the things you dreamed about and spent days, months, and even years planning. The day goes by incredibly quickly, and giving yourself permission to pause and soak it all in will make those memories even more special.”
